Uterine Prolapse
Uterine prolapse / displacement
It can happen to any woman at any stage of life. It may be embarrassing, traumatic or just a nuisance. For some women surgery is the last resort and they want to explore a more natural holistic way to assist with uterine prolapse. For others they would rather just have the surgery and get it fixed. Whichever you choose there is no right or wrong answer, it is a deeply personal journey.
What is a uterine prolapse?
This occurs when the muscles and ligaments in the pelvis weaken and the uterus is no longer held in its proper place. It then drops down into and sometimes right out of the vagina.
Causes of uterine prolapse
For each women it is entirely different, however some common causes are; pregnancy, childbirth, exercise involving heavy lifting and straining, hormonal changes such as menopause & childbirth, severe constipation, obesity & severe coughing.
Some practical things to avoid uterine prolapse
Obviously it is good to try and prevent a prolapse happening in the first place and there are a few things you can do to help.
Keep the bowels soft and regular by drinking lots of water. A way to do this is to drink a whole glass at once, rather than sips throughout the day. If you’re sipping water you probably aren’t drinking enough. Drink two glasses back to back 3-4 times a day
Adding psyllium husks and lots of fibre to your diet. This will help bulk the stools and help you pass them without straining
Using a footstool to place your feet on when have a bowel movement. This emulates the natural way we should be going to the toilet - the way that nature intended i.e. squatting
Pelvic floor exercises - yep you remember those right! The ones that we all need to keep reminding ourselves to do. Think of a way you can incorporate this into your daily life - while brushing your teeth, doing them straight after going to the toilet, while sitting in traffic - any way you can do it…and do it today…..start now!
Reducing your weight if this is a concern
There is hope….
Thank goodness we have Homeopathy - a natural alternative approach to treating uterine prolapse. Listed below are but a few remedies that may be of help in treating a prolapse. For a remedy to work well it needs to match the individual and their symptoms and it can sometimes be a challenge to find that one right homeopathic remedy. That is why Homeopaths spend years training as professionals and also continue to learn, study and apply Homeopathy once they’ve graduated.
However, that being said, if you feel one of the following Homeopathic remedies matches your symptoms then give it a go and see how you get on. If you don’t have the results you want, then an appointment to find the individualised remedy for you may be necessary.
Homeopathic remedies for uterine prolapse
There are over 139 remedies in our Homeopathic Repertory for prolapse of the uterus. Here are just a few that may help fix a prolapse without needing surgery.
Sepia
Made from the cuttlefish Sepia is a great remedy for any hormonal imbalance. Women needing this for prolapse will feel that they must cross their legs or all of their organs will fall out of their pelvis, they feel very flat and can feel indifferent to family members. The symptoms can feel better from lying down. Often this is a uterine prolapse associated with child birth or menopause where there has been a big fluctuation in hormones. Sepia women have very low libido and can be averse to their partners.
Pulsatilla
For women who are very soft, weepy and like cuddles. Quite the opposite to Sepia! They can feel worse when lying down and better in the fresh open air. There can be pressure in the abdomen and the small of the back as from a stone. There may be a crampy sensation in the vagina.
Lilium Tigrinum
Good for symptoms after pregnancy or labour where the uterus doesn’t regain its normal size. Again a feeling similar to Sepia where there is lots of bearing down sensations but with this remedy they feel better holding onto their abdomen or vulva with their hand. Lilium Tigrinum will have a heighted libido which is the direct opposite of Sepia
Palladium
All motion is painful - she can hardly stand or walk. The right side of her abdomen (ovary) may be swollen, hard and painful as if she has been beaten. There will shooting pains from navel to pelvis all on the right side. Symptoms are better when lying on the left side. The groin may feel empty and she is irritable and can use strong & violent language
Calc Fluor
Often known as a Schussler’s tissue salt, this is a great remedy taken in tissue salt strength (low potency) for strengthening and toning the ligaments in the body.
I hope you can find something here that may be of help. Don’t suffer in silence - reach out to your health professional and friends. If you are wanting to try a homeopathic remedy from above take a 30c potency (strength) 2x daily for 14-28 days.
